Power Tailgate Conversion for Dongfeng Forthing Yacht / U-Tour
The Forthing Yacht - badged U-Tour in some markets - is a large family vehicle with a rear hatch that reaches well above shoulder height. For parents loading a stroller, drivers moving luggage for hotel transfers or owners who simply park in the rain, a powered tailgate is the practical upgrade. This conversion kit replaces both gas springs with motorised struts, adds a controller on the factory wiring and gives the hatch four separate triggers. No panel is cut, no bracket is welded, and the factory manual release keeps working.
Why the Yacht Benefits Most
Body height is the deciding factor. On a vehicle this tall the hatch handle sits high and the panel is heavy, so closing it one-handed while holding a child or a bag is unsafe. A motorised strut set removes that risk. The cushioned final travel also protects the latch on a large panel, and the two stored height positions solve the low-ceiling problem that large vehicles meet in older car parks.
Compatibility
The kit is built for the Yacht / U-Tour body only and does not fit the T5, T5 Evo or Friday EV, which use different hinge geometry. Left-hand and right-hand drive vehicles share the same components. Buyers should confirm the production year on the registration document; where a market received a different spring specification, we supply the matching bracket pair at no extra charge.

What to Prepare
Set aside a work bay for 90 minutes, disconnect the battery negative lead and remove the rear pillar trim with a plastic wedge. A 10 mm and 13 mm socket, a trim tool, side cutters for ties and a multimeter cover the whole procedure. Route the harness along the existing tailgate loom, keep 200 mm spacing on the ties and avoid the hinge sweep. After refitting the trim, run the learning routine twice and store the height the owner prefers.
Service and Supply
Every set is bench tested for actuator load, stroke timing, latch handshake, reversal force and sensor threshold before packing. Actuators, modules, harnesses, brackets and switches are offered as separate service parts.
