Second-generation AX7 owners face the same daily problem as the first: a wide, glass-heavy tailgate that has to be pulled down by hand. This retrofit answers it with two motorised struts, a dedicated control module and a wiring loom that plugs into the factory connectors. Every mode works in both directions, so the same gesture that opens the hatch also closes it.
Component Breakdown

Behaviour Worth Knowing
Auto Tailgate logic pauses the panel whenever resistance is sensed and then reverses it, so a child, a pet or a roof box cannot be trapped. The motor only arms when the selector sits in P, which prevents the hatch from moving while the car is rolling. Two opening heights can be memorised, which helps with underground parking and low workshop doors. The final centimetre is pulled in electrically, so the latch is never slammed and the seals last longer. After 30 seconds idle the module drops into a low-current sleep state.

Installation Sequence
- Disconnect the battery negative terminal and remove the original gas struts.
- Bolt the supplied brackets to the existing body and hatch studs.
- Clip the powered struts in place and route the harness along the factory grommet path.
- Connect the control module, mount the dash switch, and fit the foot sensor bracket.
- Restore power, run the two-cycle self-learning routine, then store the height positions.
A fitter with hand tools finishes the job in roughly 90 minutes the first time and faster afterwards.
