Smart Tailgate Kit for the GAC Trumpchi GS5 II
The GS5 II is a mid-size SUV with a broad rear opening and a heavy glass section. This kit replaces both gas struts with electric actuators and adds a control module that manages opening, closing, obstacle detection and the final soft latch pull.
How the Control Logic Works
The module reads three inputs before it acts: gear position, vehicle speed and latch state. A command is only accepted while the selector sits in P and the vehicle is stationary. Once a cycle starts, the module samples actuator current every few milliseconds and cross-checks it against hall position data; if the two disagree, the door stops and reverses. Three beeps sound before each cycle, and a second command during travel stops the door immediately rather than reversing it, so cargo does not fall out.
Drive System
Actuators are rated 570 N per side, sized for the GS5 II lid mass, with an internal clutch that allows manual movement when the system is switched off. The tube is anodised aluminium and the rod is stainless steel; end caps are sealed to IPX5, and the connector bodies carry single-wire seals rather than booted plugs, which is what usually fails first in humid markets.

Environmental Testing
Units are run through a heat soak at 80°C, a cold start at -30°C, a 95% humidity chamber and a dust exposure cycle before approval. Each batch also has samples cycled to 5,000 operations with a 44 kg simulated lid, and current, noise and end-stop accuracy are logged.
Installation
Handed brackets on factory hinge points, harness along the GS5 II hatch loom through the existing grommet, module behind the rear quarter trim. Bracket bolts at 22 Nm. Around two hours for a first car, and the manual includes the self-learn sequence and a wiring diagram per side.
Packing
Carton 85 x 24 x 21 cm, one set per carton, four cartons per master. Actuators in EPE sleeves, hardware counted into numbered bags by side, module in a rigid insert. Buyer branding, barcode and market-language labels available on request.
