              2026/10/12
Latest company blog about Electric Tailgate Installation Common Problems & Troubleshooting | Liush Auto

Electric tailgate kits are popular automotive upgrade accessories. While installation is straightforward, you may encounter minor operational issues during or after setup. Below we list common troubleshooting solutions to help installers quickly diagnose and resolve typical problems. If the issue persists after following these steps, please reach out to our professional after-sales support.

Common Problems of Electric Tailgate Installation: Tailgate cannot close fully, or dashboard still shows the door is open after closing
              • Manually push the tailgate slowly and firmly to the fully closed position, then check if the dashboard still prompts an open door.
              • If the tailgate repeatedly fails to close completely or the dashboard keeps showing the door is open, please contact our after-sales team.
Tailgate stops before reaching the preset memory height, or pops open again before fully closed; three "beep beep beep" alerts sound when the tailgate stops
              • Three beeps indicate the intelligent anti-pinch function of the electric tailgate has been triggered.
              • Check if any external obstruction interferes with tailgate movement during opening/closing. Remove obstacles, manually close the tailgate once, then test opening and closing again.
              • If the anti-pinch triggers continuously, please contact our after-sales team.
Tailgate switch buttons fail to work; soft-close lock does not function
              • Verify that the connector of the tailgate button is fully plugged in.
              • Check whether the lock signal wire is correctly inserted into the housing and no terminals are loose.
              • Confirm the lock signal connector is firmly connected to the control box (ECU).
              • Make sure the soft-close lock is in the closed state. Press the exterior tailgate switch to check for lock response.
No power after installation (additional tailgate switch does not light up, no sound when pressing unlock)
              • Check if the power fuse is fully seated and installed in the correct orientation.
              • Ensure the ground wire is properly connected and the ground screw is tightly fastened.
              • Confirm wire terminals are inserted into the correct housing and no terminals are loose.
              • Verify all connectors on the control box (ECU) are securely plugged.
              • Use a test pen to check power supply at the power fuse and control box power cable. If power is present at the fuse but absent at the control box, inspect the power wire harness for crushing or breakage.
Dashboard warning light turns on after installation
              • Confirm the power fuse is installed in the correct slot.
              • Check that connectors at the B-pillar or under the steering wheel are fully inserted with no dislodged terminals.
              • Do not plug the mating connector before installing the housing during wiring. Improper sequence may cause short circuit of original vehicle wiring. Check whether the original vehicle fuse has blown.
A loud "bang" sound occurs the moment the tailgate opens
              • Check alignment between the soft-close lock and lower striker. Adjust them to the centered position if misaligned.
              • Move the soft-close lock downward or adjust the lower striker upward.
              • Screw the tailgate buffer rubber stoppers down to the lowest position.
